Global Game Jam 2025: Bubble Girl

,

For this year I paired up with Tim Ottenhof again. We also participated in the 2024 edition together. This years theme: Bubble. Fairly quickly we decided to go big and create a game inspired by arch hero, a 2D top down rogue-like.

Going this big was a bit too ambitious. In 48 hours we were not really satisfied with the result. Some core functionality was still missing. So we decided to continue finishing the loop and some mechanics that week.

My goal and challenge was to use AI for the first time as a programmer. I wanted to see how it would enhance my speed and efficiency. It definitely helped me create the base templates of the game logic, movement and enemy behaviour which was usefull. Overall I think it helped me quite alot in efficiency of coding, but also problem solving for tools and parts I forgot in programming.

The other challenge for me was to work with Spine & Tiled. I didn’t use these tools in depth that much, so I had to figure them out along the way. In the end the integration of both worked well.
